Back to School
No, we're not going mad!
We realise it's the start of the summer holidays - and what a summer we're having! The best weather in years it seems.
It might be that, like many businesses, your practice goes a bit quieter over the summer, with clients going on holiday, or the weather lifting their spirits so maybe they don't feel the need for therapy or pampering.
If that's the case, use the time constructively to plan ahead to the new academic term in September. Have you noticed there's an upsurge in activity after the holiday season has finished? It's a time of year when people are traditionally looking to sign up to courses and workshops.
Debs used to be a part-time complementary therapy tutor for Devon Adult and Community Learning and, without a doubt, the September term is the time when there is plenty of energy and enthusiasm for learning.
So, if you have a skill or a passion you can share, now is the time to start planning a workshop or short course. Here are a few ideas:
2-hour workshop to learn how to massage the hand - surprisingly relaxing and a great way to comfort friends in hospital (incorporating advice about contra-indications of course)
1/2 day 'sleep clinic' - include a talk about sleep, why we need it, how to get a good night's sleep, then dim the lights and play a relaxation CD
1 day Happiness Course - exploring what Happiness means, techniques for thinking positively etc
1/2 day workshop on 10 practical uses for Aromatherapy Oils - Lavender, Tea Tree etc
The reason you need to start planning your workshop now is so that you can get any advertising and promotions sorted in time for the beginning of September.
A good tip is to offer people their course fee back as part-payment when they book their first session with you. So, if they've paid £20 for your workshop, you knock £20 off their first treatment.
Take Action to develop and promote a workshop for September!
