Marketing by Default
I didn't realise I was Marketing
'Marketing'. It's one of those words like 'technical' or 'creative'. It can send shivers down the spine. One of the first things we ask training groups at the beginning of courses is "How much marketing are you currently doing?" Often the answer is "very little" or even "none at all".
But dig a little deeper and we find that the person who is doing 'nothing&' is spending a considerable amount of time enthusing about their therapy to anyone who will listen, or they've volunteered at a charity pamper event, or displayed their leaflets at their therapy centre.
All of which, of course, is promoting their business. In fact, if you are enthusiastic about your therapy it's very difficult not to market yourself.
Remember that Word of Mouth is very powerful
So use every available opportunity to informally market yourself in this way. Here are a few tips for free or low-cost marketing:
Buy from local shops and banter with the staff
When you meet a friend for coffee, go to the local cafe rather than the big brand coffee houses - again interact with the staff
Make sure you have a supply of business cards with you at all times
Look the part - no one wants to see a therapist who looks like they need therapy themselves
Reply to local companies' Facebook posts or Tweets - keep it nice and social
Offer a raffle prize of a free session or 'relaxation' pack to local schools or charities
Make a point of chatting to the receptionist at your therapy centre, they are often in a position to make recommendations to prospective clients
Good luck with growing your practice!
Take Action to market your business at every opportunity
